

Most of you will most probably think you haven’t got time to volunteer between your studies and all your other commitments…however, what you don’t realise is that some of you already do volunteer and don’t class the work you do as volunteering.
Are you a Captain or Coach of a sports team, a Secretary/Chairman or Treasurer of a Society or even just help out in your Students Union with tasks such as putting posters up/doing a leaflet drop or even a Fresher Buddy? If the answer is yes, then what you don’t realise is that you are already a volunteer and help within your community. ¨ Carmarthenshire Volunteer Bureau’s aim is to assist in the provision and development of an effective volunteering service in the
¨ The Bureau is part of CAVS (Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services) and through our extensive links with organisations throughout the county we are able to provide a service to individuals who are interested in Volunteering and match them to suitable placements.
¨ For all volunteers, we offer support with finding suitable placements, changing placements, training, support & advice, grievances & complaints, forums, referrals and in many other areas.

WHAT IS VOLUNTEERING?
¨ Volunteers give their time and energy freely and without financial gain.
¨ In return they get a feeling of satisfaction and it’s a great way to gain experience, learn new skills, add to CV, meet new people, make friends and help within the community.

¨ ANYONE – there are volunteering opportunities to suit everyone.
¨ The range of opportunities is huge….whatever skills, experience you have, there is something that you can do.

¨ Millennium Volunteers is a
Volunteering among young people aged 16-24.
AIM
¨ The MV programme aims to:
o Offer challenging and interesting volunteering opportunities for all young people
o Enable young people to acquire new skills and knowledge and develop personally
o Increase recognition of volunteering by young people in the community
o Make positive impact within local communities
o Encourage ownership of the programme by young people
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
¨ You make a commitment to volunteer for 200 hours
¨ You can choose to work in a voluntary organisations or group, or get together with friends and run your own project
¨ You can do any volunteering work which will help you, your group and the community e.g. coach a sport, arts project, work on an environmental project, campaign for a good cause
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
¨ For 100 hours of volunteering you will receive a Certificate of Recognition
¨ For 200 hours you will receive an Award of Excellence from the First Minister of the National Assembly for
¨ Your achievements will be recognised by employers, colleges and the local community…so it might help you find a job!
